Hostel La Casona 1859

We had paid a 40% deposit to reserve, but arrived to find no room for us. It took two hours before we were shown one, and nobody apologized. They were only focused on collecting the rest of the payment. Parking had been promised but wasn't available. Some rooms were quite damp, and although they said we'd move rooms the second night, that never happened. When our stay ended, they were very punctual about telling us to leave by 12:00. After losing two hours when we arrived, they could have made up that time at checkout.

I had a very nice room with a balcony, and being in the historic center is a real plus. The service was wonderful. The only possible downside is the bar next door, which makes the nights very noisy.

The fan barely moved air and made a lot of noise. In Room 16, I woke up to a smell of drains backing up, and with no ceiling in the bathroom there was no way to contain it. The old sheets had itchy lint. It was a terrible night.

It was humid and dirty, there was no soap, and the towels felt scratchy. Breakfast was badly prepared: the sliced bread hadn't been heated, the arepa was cold and undercooked, and the egg and hot chocolate were bad.
