Hotel Bahia Guatape

The hotel is on the main square, making it easy to explore town, see the zocolas, or find a mototaxi to nearby Penon de Guatape. The staff were extremely friendly and even let us check out late without any trouble. Our room was simple but clean, and the natural breeze kept it cool and comfortable despite having no air conditioning. Breakfast is served at a nearby restaurant: a well-made traditional Colombia meal of eggs, arepas, pan, and your choice of coffee or hot chocolate. Wi-Fi was free and fast. I’d happily return and recommend it to anyone visiting Guatape!

The rooms are very basic, with no AC or fan, and the music stays blaring until 2:30 am. If you want to sleep, find somewhere else.

We were told at arrival that the hotel closes at 10 PM, but nobody mentioned breakfast. Since there’s no dining room, we thought Booking.com had listed it by mistake. We only found out from other reviews that breakfast was at a neighboring hotel. There are almost no services here. It’s a rustic place right on the main square, and the church bell rings every hour from 2 AM, then every half hour from 3 AM. The bathroom looks like it’s from the 1970s, the adult towels are small, and my eleven-year-old son got just one 40x70 cm towel. Cleaning seemed to have happened days earlier: hair and dust were on the floors and in the bathroom, and the sheets weren’t very clean. The beds were low and rock hard, two singles pushed together. There were no bath mats, so they gave us a pillowcase to use instead. Some rooms may have nice views, but you can see the view as soon as you step outside, and that doesn’t make this hotel worth a good review. It’s cheap, but not worth the price. The neighboring rooms were noisy at night, and no one smokes in the neighboring rooms. The staff could be more welcoming and better at customer service; there was no service at all, not even compared with the metro ticket office, where they do ten times better. Zero across the board. Be honest in your reviews so other people aren’t misled. I’m glad we only stayed one night.
