La Martinera Malecón

We were two couples in the apartment, but only had one key, and they wouldn't let us leave it at the front desk when going out separately. You need a key to exit the building, and sometimes nobody was there to let you in or out. That seemed unsafe in case of a fire or emergency. Parking was also a problem: although the apartment listing said it was available, they told us none was available when we arrived. It was a holiday and we drove around and around before finding a street spot. Parking opened up the next day, but the garage was small, hard to maneuver in, and had a very steep entrance and exit. The apartment was very clean and convenient for town. Toiletries were just hand soap in squeeze bottles, with no blow dryer, shampoo, or lotion. It works best for one couple who plan to do everything together.

The apartment was disappointing, and I'd strongly advise against booking it. The address we were given was wrong, costing us time and taxi money, and on arrival there was no reception. We had to wait for someone to bring the keys. We were rushing to get to El Penol and didn't check the place until bedtime. Then we found that the sheets and towels hadn't been changed after the previous guests. The bed had been made to look fresh, but there was hair everywhere. The owner offered to send someone at 9:30 the next morning, which was no help since we were checking out the following day. There were no spare sheets, so we had to spend the night with dirty linens. Returning the keys was disorganized too. We were told to wait for a woman to collect them, but she didn't arrive on time, although I had asked someone to come see the apartment while we were still there. We had to hurry to their "office" to drop off the keys and missed our 12pm bus to Medellin. The host and housekeeping team were incompetent and negligent. There are plenty of other properties at the same price that offer real service.

A very good apartment, with everything you need to use easy to find. The lake view is fantastic.
