The staff treated us like family and were warm and helpful with requests whenever they could manage them. The rooms are comfortable enough, though they can get warm. The fan they provided kept us cool at night. There’s antique furniture all over the place, but it’s functional, so don’t be afraid to use a chair or couch that looks like it belongs in a museum. My favorite spot was the long balcony outside the dining room, where you can watch all kinds of plants and wildlife, mostly birds. The infinity pool looks out over a coffee plantation, and the garden jacuzzi is especially nice in the evening while the sun goes down. The place is beautiful, almost like something from a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel. There are a few friendly cats around, especially Michi, and Josefa, their talking Amazon parrot, puts on an unforgettable greeting show if she takes a liking to you. I’d avoid bringing children, though, since this hotel is definitely geared toward adults. 10/10, highly recommend.

The food was okay, and most of the staff were nice, though one person always seemed in a bad mood and made things unpleasant. The internet was very slow, usually under 1 megabit per second, which was frustrating when I needed it. The room was hot, and all they provided was a small fan. I also found the bathroom very small. The property is in a good location, and from the right spot you can get a beautiful view.

The hotel never got back to Expedia about my stay, and Expedia said it couldn’t resolve anything further because it couldn’t reach the hotel staff. Very unprofessional. Also, there was no Wi-Fi in the building where we stayed, so don’t advertise it as available there. Don’t book here or through Expedia unless they tell you about the road conditions first. They kept messaging me as I made my way there but never warned me that the road was unsafe. It was very sketchy, unlit, and extremely dangerous. I left the next day because I couldn’t enjoy visiting nearby places.

The decor is beautiful and the food was excellent, but for the price I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The back deck is lovely for looking at the stars and moon, but they make you leave by 11pm when they turn off the lights and close it. We had to ask for a fan, and it took about an hour to get an extra towel. The staff member said I already had two, so I had to explain that they were still wet from my shower the night before. Most people treated us very nicely, but the manager was hard to deal with. She had so much to handle that customer care seemed to fall by the wayside. We had to listen to her business phone conversations while waiting for her to finish our check-in. I asked for two shots of rum, and she brought half a bottle without asking whether I wanted to buy it. Be careful what you ask for. At checkout, she kept insisting I fill in a document even though I said everything had been completed and paid for. It turned out to be a hotel review questionnaire. I said I’d do it online, which she didn’t like, but there was no need to keep pressuring me.

We had two three-year-old kids with us, and the hotel refused to serve them. We ended up in a big argument trying to explain that we had booked with the kids included and that children that age do eat. They could have brought them something, but they pushed back so strongly that the whole thing felt really strange. The coffee situation was just as odd. They grow coffee beans right there, but the coffee they serve is heavily restricted and, as the staff called it, “commercial.” You can pour the free coffee yourself, but they wouldn’t add a little milk to a second cup unless I bought a can. I only wanted about a spoonful. They said the first coffee, which came with milk, was free, so I waited through a no-coffee headache until it arrived. For the next day we brought our own milk. On day three, I drank only half of the first cup and topped it up with the free coffee so there’d still be some milk in it. To be honest, I finally went into the fields and started chewing on the coffee beans because you can judge the coffee they serve for yourself. The hotel looks nice, but breakfast and service felt awkward and off-putting. I can live with the coffee being what it is, but refusing a few drops of milk over such a small thing was difficult to understand.
