Hostal La Mariapolis

The location is great, with easy access to the water right in front so you can swim, plus a nice balcony overlooking the sea. Friendly dogs hang around the place too :) It’s a laid-back little hostel with a funky, artsy feel. Angela, the owner, speaks English and is wonderful. She knows the area well and made us feel welcome straight away. Her family runs a vegetarian restaurant next door, though it was closed while we were there. Angela gave us good tips on where to find vegetarian food in town.

We stayed in a private room with the ocean right outside the door, and could swim or relax with a maracuya juice from their bar. The sunsets are incredible. It’s such a beautiful, artsy, homey place to stay in Necocli, and Angela is a very welcoming host.

The facilities are basic, but it’s amazing value. I only stayed one night and wish it had been longer. Waves breaking right by the bedrooms made it one of my favourite places I’ve been lucky enough to stay, and even waking up in the night was a pleasure.

The host is helpful and can assist with the boats. It’s far enough outside of necocli to be quiet at night, but restaurants and beaches are still just a stroll away. A great place to relax, with beautiful sunsets that are hard to find on Colombia’s northern coast.
