I Wanna Palomino - Hostel

Be warned, there are several bars next door with very loud music until 2 AM. If you're here to party, that's fine, but I wanted some quiet and had to check out early. Very noisy, but the manager was super friendly. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is Kayla. She's a wonderful, honest and friendly manager, and she immediately refunded me for the nights I didn't use. 'no country for old men'

The bedroom and pool were nice, and it's a nice hotel overall. The bar next door made it very noisy at night. The bathroom was clean but not nice to use: the water pressure was poor, and the broken shower knob made it really hard to turn the shower on or off.

A lot of potential, and a great location right by the beach. The facilities were good: pool, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds with mosquito nets, and a big balcony for reading. Breakfast was included, and the staff were really friendly. It seemed like they must have replaced whoever got all those negative reviews. There were only a couple of other guests, which was tough as a solo traveller. On the other hand, Dreamer Hostel is right opposite, with a bar and lots of activity in the evenings.

Luckily we booked only one night. The receptionist gave us a very cold welcome and seemed clearly under the influence of something. He shouted to ask what we were doing there, then sent us back to reception, which had been empty when we arrived. I wouldn't recommend the tent at the back or the dorms near the pool. The posted pool hours are 9am to 9pm, but a group of 10 people were partying there until 1am. The dorms themselves are okay, with mosquito nets on each bed, but the upper beds have a ladder that isn't attached to the wall or anything else. On my first climb down, it slid along the ground when I put both feet on it, and I burned my back thigh and knee. It hurt like hell. I'd choose somewhere more serious and better managed. The wifi was good but unreliable, like everywhere in town, and the breakfast was good, too. Have a good time in Palomino!
