Nueve Uno Hostel

The owners were so nice. They helped me book another hostel when I arrived because this one was full, and they even let me check in ridiculously early. The facilities are only a couple of months old, so a few details still need finishing, though I’m probably being picky. You can be at the beach in 2-3 minutes, with a pharmacy, groceries, banks, and restaurants all within a five minute walk. It’s super clean, from the bathrooms and shower to the dorms. The front door has a magnetic lock, so it feels secure, unlike other places in town with locks a child could break. You can also walk here from the bus terminal in about 15 minutes. I had to leave a review before heading out.

I planned to stop in Riohacha on the way to Cabo de la vela and Punta Gallina, but ended up staying five nights, both before and after the desert trip. Jose was thoughtful, humble, and so helpful with my needs, and he kept giving us good tips about the city and nearby area. He and his brother Jesus keep the hostel quiet, cozy, and clean. The internet is a real plus compared with other hostels in town. I tried WiFi at a few places before choosing this one, and it’s especially useful if you need a solid connection for work or travel planning. The hostel is right by the beach, so it’s easy to walk along the malecón, watch the sunset, or go for a run or swim. There are also plenty of banks and ATMs, plus a big supermarket.

Thanks, Nueve Uno! The private room was really good, more like an apartment, with a separate bedroom, kitchen, living room, and bathroom. The location is good too. They can recommend tours, though I wouldn’t recommend the castle tours.

It’s a nice, very small hostel, and was pretty quiet when I went. The kitchen is good, but the room could use a lamp. Getting in was a bit odd because there’s no buzzer at the door, and there wasn’t much of an atmosphere.
