Hotel Brisas Del Norte

After several days and many requests, they finally refunded my prepayment. Getting to that point was awful. They insisted I pay for the whole stay in advance, a demand I didn’t encounter at other hotels in town. Their claimed hot water was intermittent or nonexistent, and the bathroom smelled of sewer from bad plumbing. At first they sprayed Glade in there, so it smelled like flowers instead. The fan mount was broken, and the fan was too noisy to use at night. Open air walls and metal louvers also meant very loud nights and poor sleep. When I arrived tired from travel, I didn’t get the room I’d been promised and had to stay with a friend at another hotel. The second night they asked me to stay in their aunt’s house across the street. Once I finally got a small room, they insisted it was a three person room, though it had no AC as I’d originally been promised, and acted as if they were doing me a favor. They said I’d have to move again in a few days. The hotel looks clean, but the owners seemed keen to take my money without getting reservations right, among other problems. Awful is the nicest word I can use for my experience.

Hector was helpful and let us leave our extra bag after checkout so we could fly one more day. Paying by credit card was convenient. The location is great, about a five minute walk from the park, with a bakery and grocery stores nearby. My basic room had an attached bathroom with room temperature water. It was cleaned daily and came with a fresh towel each day. There was no AC, just an electric fan. The WiFi was generally slow and unreliable, so working remotely would be difficult. When the hotel was full, it was unusable.

I’ve stayed at Brisas Del Norte twice now. The rooms are simple, but sparkling clean, with fans and new beds. It’s one block from Centro and close to all the amenities. If you’re a PG pilot, you get an east view of Aguapanela launch. Owner Hector and his wife greet you and take an interest in your stay. Thanks for a great stay, see you next year!

It’s a small place near the center square. The room is very minimal, just a bed, fan, TV (which I never used), and little shelf, but it worked fine for me. The host doesn’t speak English, so having a translator is a good idea. I’d stay here again.
