Hotel Colonial - Salamina Caldas

The staff were friendly enough, but the rooms are small. You only get windows if you pay extra. I paid for that, but sleep was still difficult because the walls are paper thin. I could hear snoring, TV sounds, music, shouting, and even someone putting a toilet seat down at 2 am from the other side of the hotel. If that kind of noise doesn’t bother you, go ahead and stay.

We spent two nights at Hotel Colonial. It’s well located by the Plaza principal, the staff are very friendly, and the room was inexpensive. The place is old, though, and you can hear people walking in the hallway in the morning, so bring earplugs. The bathroom isn’t in the room, but it’s your own and almost directly opposite. It was very clean and tidy. I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast: it was basic and not very tasty, apart from the eggs.

The room was near the restaurant and gym, and it was noisy. The mattress was awful, super soft foam, and the bed was propped up on pieces of stone. They do have better rooms, so ask for one on the same floor as reception and it should be perfect. The water is drinkable. Wifi was so-so and dropped out now and then.

It’s quite old, but has a lot of charm, with an interior that feels like colonial times. Some rooms look out onto the main plaza, so they might be a bit noisy. Still, it’s a nice place.
