Cabañas Truchas Cocora

A nice stop after hiking Cocora Valley, with tasty food and lovely views. One portion costs 22000 COP. Definitely recommended 👌 You can also check out the trouts in the stews 😅

You get a delicious dish along with beautiful scenery, singing birds, and colorful flowers and plants. Prices are average, about $23.000 pesos per dish, and they only take cash. You can park by the roadside, where a nice guy will watch your vehicle for a fair tip of $7.000 pesos.

After the long loop, there's a delicious trout meal waiting, and you can use the bathrooms here too. I highly recommend stopping at the farm for the food and views. Take a jeep from Salento town center, and line up on the day to get a ticket. It's 10,000 COP, or 5,000 each way. To start the hike, walk past the touristy spots to the last booth on the right. Pay 20,000 COP there for entry to both the short walk to Mirador 2 and the longer 12km hike. For the long route, keep going up to Finca La Montaña, then start down. The descent can be steep and muddy, and you'll probably walk through some water, so wear good hiking shoes. On the longer 12km loop, you'll eventually reach a fork with an informal blue map or sign on the left, written in sharpie. To visit the humming bird house, keep left, go up, then come back. To finish the loop, turn right instead. You'll cross several Indiana Jones-esqe bridges and pass a waterfall. Later, you'll leave the forest and walk between two fences with cattle and horses on either side. The views there are serene. There's another booth where you pay 6,000 COP to pass, then it's about 10 minutes to the meal.

The trout here was fantastic, one of the best we've eaten while travelling. We own a trout farm and restaurant in Europe, so we're quite picky about trout. I also like that they serve just one version, which helps make sure it's prepared really well. 👏
