Karibbik Haus Hostel

It’s a family-run place with a relaxed atmosphere and a lovely family feel. The owners were really kind when my daughter and I got sick, and helped us get medicine. It’s well placed near a beach, and the white buses make it easy to get on and off while exploring the whole island.

We liked it enough to add two weeks to our original plan of just a couple of days. The owners were friendly and ready to help with anything we needed, and the rooms and shared spaces were clean and roomy. It’s easy to meet other guests, though this isn’t a party hostel. The location felt good and safe, with the city centre and beach both about a 10-minute walk away. We’d definitely recommend it if you want a good-quality hostel in San Andres. The kitchen was great and we cooked every day. There’s a D1 supermarket five minutes away for cheap essentials, plus a larger Supertodo a bit further on for fruit and veg. We spent five nights at Karribik and really liked the laid-back feel. It’s a small place, but there was always someone around for a chat. The lounge has a TV, handy on a stormy afternoon, and there’s also a nice balcony with tables and swing seats. We had a private room with a huge bed and our own bathroom. I can’t speak for the dorms. Towels and bedding were changed every couple of days. It’s around a 2 km walk to the main beach, which helped keep things quiet. Our room at the back was peaceful, and there’s a bus stop pretty much outside for Rocky Cay if you don’t want to walk. Rosie answered our questions and dealt with issues straight away. Scooters and golf buggies are available to rent for a good price. There were ants in the kitchen sometimes, though that was because some guests didn’t clean up after themselves. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a chilled place to stay.

Wi-Fi varied between roughly 20 and 45 mbit. A private room was 160 k per night, and card payment was accepted. The room had air conditioning, a fridge, a few clothes hangers, and plugs beside the bed. It locked with a padlock, and you could use your own. The bathroom shelf with the sink felt unstable, and the towel rail was loose. There was a small soap holder in the shower, which had no shower head. As is common throughout San Andres, the water was cold. A toilet brush was provided, which is pretty rare. Reception staff were friendly, check-in was smooth, and they spoke English. You can contact them on WhatsApp. There’s a hose by reception to rinse sand off your feet, and a shared space with a kitchen and seating.
