Hostel Nirvana San Gil

I only stayed one night before heading home, and enjoyed it. The host was courteous, if a little disorganized. The room was clean and had hot water, and the pool was nice. Wi-Fi was decently fast. The neighbourhood felt safe, with restaurants a couple of blocks away. There's a cheaper bus right outside, so no need for a taxi.

The employees were incredible, kind, informative, and welcoming. The pool, bar, decent beds, and hammocks are all great, so I'd give the place a solid four stars. The food was convenient to have on site but really bland. It's a cool hostel, but the atmosphere felt a bit dead. Other travelers kept to themselves instead of mingling, which matters a lot to me in a hostel. It's a little out of town, so expect to take taxis everywhere.

We planned on two days and stayed five. The common areas are great for relaxing and everything was clean, but the staff at nirvana stood out most. We've never had better hostel staff. Andres went out of his way to help us, and everyone else was amazing too. If you're coming to San gil, just stay here, you won't be disappointed.

The staff were super friendly and helped with everything, and I liked the good Wi-Fi, pool, sound, and relaxed feel. Still, quite a few little things made the stay less enjoyable. Maybe it was the off season, but about half the food and drinks on the menu weren't available. The food we ordered wasn't tasty and arrived all at once within ten minutes, so it seemed only warmed up. A 24/7 kitchen is convenient, but I'd prefer regular hours and better quality. The beds were comfortable, but the rooms felt really humid and stuffy. The bathroom floors were always wet after people showered, and a floor towel would help. It's also quite far out of town.
