Santa Marta Emile

We liked how quiet the soundproofed rooms were, and there are supermarkets and two shopping centers close by. Buses come every five minutes; for 2700 pesos, the ride to central Santa Marta takes 20 minutes. The beach is 150 meters away, with black sand and warm water, about 26 degrees at the end of October. There are plenty of supermarkets nearby: D1 was the cheapest and not bad, followed by Olimpica and then Exito. The 16-story Santa Marta Emile is new and has three elevators, air conditioning, a fitness center, and a massage parlor. The rooms are bright and spacious, with either ocean or mountain views. Ours had a TV, safe, refrigerator with complimentary drinks and snacks, and a hairdryer. The toilet is separate from the shower and sink, and daily cleaning included fresh linens and towels. The staff were friendly. We booked breakfast, which was filling and varied: soups, vegetables, three kinds of fried eggs, sausage, hot dogs, cheeses, fresh juice, coffee, sweets, and meat with rice. There’s also a large pool with pleasant water and a bar.

The staff were really friendly, and the pool was a nice place to relax in the sun. Our room was huge, with a beautiful wraparound balcony, a very roomy shower, and a comfortable bed. We only stayed a few nights to visit my fiancé’s family, but we’ll definitely come back. The beach was just a few minutes’ walk away.

We found the room clean and well stocked, and the restaurant food and service were excellent. The staff were very friendly and let us have a late checkout when we asked. The pool looked lovely, though we didn’t use it. The hotel is great value, with the beach across the street and Zazue Plaza a five-minute walk away. I’d recommend it.
