We spent just one day at Villa María while staying at its sister hotel in Santa Marta, but next time we'd like to stay for a few days and explore the area more. It's set in a mountain jungle surrounded by beautiful scenery. We mostly relaxed by the pool, which has plenty of chairs, some in the shade, and there are hammocks too. The food was absolutely wonderful, and the people serving it were lovely. The administrator came over and explained the facilities, including that much of the produce served is grown on site.
Two nights just wasn't enough, and I hope to return. The staff were attentive, warm, and welcoming from reservation through checkout. We loved the grounds and rooms, the restaurant and its great breakfast, and access to a really nice beach. When something in our room needed attention, Valentina responded quickly and showed real concern and care. She and her staff deserve high praise for making us feel valued and satisfied.
We stayed in a bungalow with a spectacular sea view and sunrise. It's surrounded by nature, and early in the morning you can hear the hollow monkeys and might see them if you're lucky. The staff were kind, and when we had a couple of room issues they fixed them right away. We loved the place and would come back without hesitation. Thanks for the morning walk, and for the delicious food at every meal. The beach is only a 10-minute walk away, which makes it even better. I can't edit the pictures, but by the fists Lila, I meant Paquita. She isn't so friendly, so be careful with her.
If I could, I'd give the location 10 stars. We spent only three nights at Villa Maria, a beautiful, peaceful place to connect with nature. The jungle and sea views were astonishing, the bed was super comfortable, and the pool was a lovely extra. Pako and Lila, the park's two mascots, were fun to see. I'm glad we chose it for our honeymoon and hope to return soon.
We expected too much. The rooms have a few luxuries, like sheets, but everything else seems to have been removed. For a place in the middle of a National Park, they provide only a 4 Oz bottle of water. There's no coffee machine, and pool towels are at the office, not by the pool. You have to walk half a mile through the jungle, up and down steps, in very low light to reach the office. They say there's beach access, but the office gives you a code to pass through a dumpster area that doesn't belong to them, then call that “beach access.”
