Hotel Rilux Tolu -Casa Danae-

The drive in was awful. The roads are muddy, unpaved, and full of potholes, and even leaving the area takes about 15 minutes. Anyone prone to motion sickness may find it especially hard. There are no taxis nearby; the manager needs 30 minutes' notice to arrange one. You won't find an ATM, currency exchange, or supermarket close by. There are a few small restaurants and bodegas within walking distance, but the muddy roads make getting to them unpleasant. The food service disappointed us. Our hamburger patty was literally Spam. Wi-Fi kept cutting out, and neighborhood dogs with fleas wandered in and out of the property, patio, and lobby. The beds weren't comfortable, and there was no hot running water. A recent storm had left the beach filthy. The pool was a little cloudy and had a dead crab in it. The room had only a tiny shampoo bottle and a regular bar of soap. It smelled strongly of roach spray mixed with another scent. On our second night, we found a huge roach crawling on the bed and had to hunt it down and kill it. I couldn't sleep after that and was ready to check out. The bathroom window was broken and wouldn't close, which I suspect let the bugs in. Lighting was so dim, we needed our phone flashlights to see inside our bags. There were no USB outlets, and the whole hotel had just one iron.

Bring insect repellent if you're staying in the area. You'll need it. We loved how peaceful the location was, and the sunset there is spectacular. Sandi and the whole team were incredibly helpful and really wanted us to have a great stay.

El lugar es de ensueño, y la mamá de sandi es un amor y hace muy buena compañía. También fue muy agradable el trato del personal, en especial sandi, y las instalaciones del hotel son lindas. La ubicación lo hace muy tranquilo y pacífico. La comida, eso sí, fue muy regular en el desayuno y la cena, casi deficiente. El almuerzo sí estaba rico, pero los ingredientes eran de muy baja calidad y había poca variedad. Aunque costara más, habría pagado con gusto por comer bien, pero pasar cuatro días sin disfrutar la comida fue cansón y harto. El aseo del cuarto también estuvo bastante mal. No tienen un horario específico y durante los cuatro días no limpiaron ni una vez. Además, el olor a guardado era terrible. Hay varias cosas por mejorar.

Sandy was a wonderful host, always paying attention to what we needed, and the food was delicious. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with everything necessary, in a beautiful setting. Very good value for the price.
