Hotel Casa Verde

My sleep was great, and I really appreciated the service. The main things to work on are cleanliness and replacing some of the bedding, since it was a bit old. Aside from that, excellent.

The location near Morro beach is a plus, but getting to the beach or downtown takes ages without a ride, and there isn't much public transportation around. I think staying in the city center is more convenient, even with the chaos. They ask for half the reservation payment in advance, possibly in case you change your mind about the trip. My last night was miserable. The air conditioning stopped working that day, and even while it was running earlier, it barely helped. I suspect it hadn't been maintained. There was no fan to use instead, and the mosquitoes kept biting while the heat made it impossible to sleep.

The hotel is older, but the rooms were comfortable and always clean, with air conditioning and TVs. There's a good pool and a restaurant, and breakfast was included. The Wi-Fi worked, too. The neighborhood is very quiet, so we didn't hear traffic. It's also about 10 minutes from the airport by taxi and a 15-minute walk to Morro Beach. My wife and I walked around safely both day and night, and my mother did the same on this visit. None of us felt threatened. This was my second stay. My wife and I came last year, and now my mother has joined me. Both times, we took whale watching tours through the owner's contacts, and the service was excellent. Don Roberto, the owner, is a fascinating person to talk with. I was surprised to hear he was studying German, and he's very disciplined about it. He also takes in stray animals and cares for them well. The dogs and cats clearly love it there. I'd happily stay again when I return to Tumaco.

I usually don't write bad reviews, but this stay was awful. The rooms were uncomfortable, the bathrooms filthy, and when I turned on the shower the water came out completely yellow. After a long trip, I just wanted to get home and shower. The bathroom looked like one at a roadside convenience store, and I didn't even last an hour. For what I paid, I never expected it to be this terrible. The location is good, but the comfort and service weren't. I hope they improve. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless it's an emergency.
