Hotel Juglar

Terrible experience. I booked in January, but today they told me the reservation had been canceled because of a platform problem, and nobody would answer me. I had to file a complaint with the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce. I absolutely don't recommend them. I hope the authorities in Valledupar investigate and close these kinds of establishments. Be careful, don't let them rip you off!

The service was very good, and the place was clean and comfortable, with air conditioning. The only downside is the weekend noise, since it's in Valledupar's entertainment district.

The hotel is in a great spot. Around the Bolívar area there are places to eat and drink, entertainment venues, and even clinics nearby in case of an emergency. The room itself was very small, though, and the hotel’s service was very poor. The sink is outside the bathroom because the bathroom is so narrow. Water runs through a small hole in the wall when you use the shower, and the flow is so weak that you have to stand right against the wall to bathe. You have to leave the bathroom door open to sit on the toilet because your knees hit it otherwise. The tank also wouldn't refill after flushing, which was one of the main problems, along with how little water there was. The water pumps kept being switched off by the receptionist, a very serious man who was almost gruff. We had to go downstairs and tell him there was no water in the room so he would turn them back on, even though he knew the water pressure was weak. He ended up lending us a bucket so we could pour water into the toilet and flush it. The bed wasn't a double bed, but two beds pushed together, and the mattress shifted while we slept, leaving us sinking into the middle and making our bodies uncomfortable. The room looked poorly presented, and the hotel shows something better than what you get.

The hotel covers the basics: free Wi-Fi in rooms and common areas, air conditioning, a 16-inch flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, daily housekeeping, and a 24-hour reception. Airport transfers are available for an extra fee of about COP 7,000 per trip. The staff are friendly, and there’s a terrace and bar for a casual evening. The building has only two floors and around 12 rooms, with few common areas, so it doesn’t feel especially spacious or professional. There’s no on-site parking, which is inconvenient if you arrive by car. Amenities are sparse too: no pool, gym, or formal restaurant, just a small bar/lounge, and breakfast doesn’t seem to be included in many rates. The decor and comfort are limited. Several platforms describe comfort and cleanliness as adequate but not memorable, with Booking and Momondo scores between 7.1 and 7.9, and an overall rating of 7.8 out of 10 based on few reviews. For nearby food, Quile Steak Delicias de Novillo is a one-minute walk away. Refresquería La Unión del Valle takes about nine minutes on foot, while Cosechas, Sandwich Qbano, and Mr. Chuzz Express are around 17-18 minutes away. Google Maps can help compare the routes and plan when to go. You can also use its nearby places feature to locate Valledupar Coliseum, 1.7 km away, Calle Grande Artisan Center, about 2-3 km away, and the School of Fine Arts, all a short drive from the hotel. For cultural walks, set directions to Plaza Alfonso López or the Accordion Museum, 2.7 km away. If you need an airport transfer, confirm the route to Alfonso López Pumarejo Airport on Google Maps, about 2-3 km or 8-10 minutes by car, and arrange the ride with the hotel ahead of time. Hotel Juglar works as a budget option with basic amenities and a convenient Valledupar location. But the bare-bones building, lack of parking, few amenities, and limited food options make a higher rating hard to justify. I give it 5/10, modest but understandable next to better-equipped places in the city.
