The bills caught me by surprise because I wasn't told the prices beforehand, and I didn't get a bill until I asked when leaving. Josefina, the owner, puts on a smile but, in my experience, is a crook. She was the only person who cheated me on my trip. Be very cautious and don't trust her smiling face. She said there were security problems on the road and referred me to a friend as a "guide." I paid 100.000 pesos, though there were no security problems at all. She also sent me an hour away by car to another friend for a six-hour 4x4 climb in the Sierra Nevada. I thought I might die. We were supposed to visit indians, but didn't see a single one. That same day, the eight-hour car trip cost 300.000 pesos. I was charged 10.000 pesos to pick up a hamaca I'd bought just 300m away, without being told about the charge. Then she charged me 40.000 pesos for 10 minutes of nitting work without mentioning the price first, when the normal price is 10.000. Her hairdresser also charged 50.000 for a haircut, usually 20.000 pesos, again with no price given in advance. I only found out what I'd been charged when I asked for the bill. There were also 83.000 pesos in tips, listed as propina, 10% of the total bill. Only restaurants are allowed to charge this, and only if the client agrees, of course. This is illegal. I eventually received a second bill without asking for one. The 10.000 pesos for the hamaca pickup had been deducted, but not reimbursed. NEVER AGAIN!

For a family looking to rest in a hammock, this place comes recommended. It's a low-key boutique hotel with a cozy, elegant feel and the traditional costeño architecture of the sugar haciendas. It has the kind of romantic atmosphere you find in most of Gabriel García Márquez's novels.

I've never stayed somewhere I was so reluctant to leave, with no desire to go sightseeing or do anything else. Such a lovely, cozy hotel, and the staff were amazing. I wish I'd been able to stay longer!

We went for the Festival Vallenato, and it was amazing. Top service, a clean place, and an authentic historic atmosphere. Absolutely 💯, I'd recommend it when in Valledupar.
