We booked through Booking.com. Before paying, we called the property to check that a room was available for our dates. They confirmed it, so we sent the transfer and it was accepted. We started our trip after paying, taking on extra costs like tolls and driving restrictions because we trusted that confirmation. Once we were already on the road, they didn't call us. We only got a voice message saying the room was no longer available because they'd "forgot to block the room" and had given it to someone else. They cancelled unilaterally, without justification, after taking payment. We were already traveling and had no recourse, so we had to find emergency accommodation at a considerably higher cost. The stress and frustration ruined our end-of-year plans. We consider this a serious service failure, a lack of competence, and a violation of consumer rights: the stay was confirmed and paid for, the cancellation came from an internal failure at the property, and the resulting economic and emotional harm was direct and verifiable.

The service was very good, and Doña Leonor is a pleasant person, but the rest of the experience was a rip-off. I only think it's nice enough to visit once. The house is old and really far from town, despite Airbnb saying it was right in the middle. They called it a "mistake," but by then it was too late for me to cancel and book somewhere else. Water went out several times a day. When it was available, the shower swung between freezing and scalding, and there was hardly any pressure. Sometimes it stopped altogether while I was showering. The sink had the same problem. There were no curtains in the bathroom or hallways. My room had curtains, but they were nearly transparent, and you could hear everything the other guests did. I imagine they could hear everything I did, too. Each taxi ride up or down cost 25,000 pesos, and drivers happily told you the later you got back, the more they'd charge. The fares also varied from driver to driver. Everything was complicated.
