The property and gardens were lovely, and it felt very private. We bought day passes and were the only guests there, which we really enjoyed. The pool was nice, the massages were okay, and we were given a schedule of activities when we arrived. The food and service were a different story. Nobody asked about dietary needs, and the only choices were three kinds of fish. One of us doesn't eat fish, and they said there wasn't another option except to defrost chicken on the spot, so vegetarians seem out of luck. Lunch was a bland piece of fish with boiled vegetables, nothing else. Afterward, the woman who served us disappeared, and we were left waiting for dessert and for directions to the sauna. We had to search around the hotel for her. It seemed she'd forgotten the dessert, then quickly put together toasted frozen lasagna sheets with a tiny piece of frozen fruit. I didn't eat it, and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be phyllo that she'd forgotten to bake. They advised us to drink water between sauna sessions, but there was no water or cups provided, and no directions on where to find any. The service was confusing and the lunch experience was weird, even though the place itself was great and we loved the privacy. It didn't seem like they really wanted people to come. If you do go, bring sandwiches, snacks, and your own water bottle.

I've been coming here for a while, and it's a really special place. The owner is lovely and makes room for personal requests. All the staff, including the treatment and massage therapists, are highly trained. I've been to many spas around the world, but this one stands out. The rooms are thoughtfully equipped, eco-friendly, and nontoxic. There are different treatment rooms and modalities, and the grounds are beautiful, with well-tended gardens and lovely infrastructure. A hidden gem!

The only thing I can really praise is how kind the staff were. The rest of our stay was disappointing, and for the price, it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. The place felt neglected and dirty. The walls urgently need painting, and some were very grimy and in poor shape. Our room had a sheet with yellow stains, and one chair was old and dirty. The shower temperature kept going up and down. The pool water was very cold, and the Jacuzy area was so dark that it was impossible to use after 6 pm. There were very few employees, so they had to rush between different jobs, which made things look bad and led to delays, like when we ordered food. Breakfast was also far too small for what you pay per day: a drink, two pieces of bread, and some fruit. They should offer a full dish.

Diego made our stay. He greeted us with fresh juice, took our bags, showed us to the room, and looked after us so attentively that we've kept in touch and became friends. If not for him, I'd have given the place four stars instead of five. The manager passed by once and barely acknowledged us, even though we were the only guests. When I asked if he was the manager and told him how fantastic Diego was, he smiled, thanked me, and walked off. We went to Costa Rica at the end of April 2018 and saved Asclepios for last because it cost more than our basic Holiday Inn in the city. It was well worth it. We were the only guests on the property, which might sound like a horror movie, but we loved having the place to ourselves. It's beautiful and modern, and our clean, lovely room had a great balcony where we ate lunch and looked out at the green mountains. The whole property was so beautiful that it would've been hard to leave the room if it weren't also beautiful outside. We enjoyed all our meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The included breakfast wasn't just bread and fruit: it had delicious whole-grain bread, fresh granola, assorted fruit, coffee, and freshly squeezed juice. There's also an à la carte menu for extras like eggs and omelettes, which was all we added. On our flight day, I booked a clay wrap followed by a Vichy massage, and the masseuse was friendly and did a great job. I can't remember everything else that made the place so phenomenal, but we loved every minute. The only thing I'd change is adding Wi-Fi in the room. I wanted to post photos right away because the resort was breathtaking, and couldn't without Wi-Fi. But who really cares? You're in Costa Rica. Five stars!

I left Asclepios feeling refreshed and more connected to myself and the world around me. The staff were knowledgeable and guided me through experiences that felt transformative. Fresh local food and rejuvenating spa treatments were part of a stay thoughtfully designed to nourish body and mind. The accommodations had a calm, simple feel that fit the natural beauty of Costa Rica, and the lush surroundings and attentive service made the retreat feel like a peaceful oasis. For me, Asclepios is a sanctuary for personal growth and holistic healing, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a profound wellness experience.
