We were loud, tired, complicated, and stranded by airline chaos with 50 travel-weary students. Hotel Martino Spa & Resort handled us like champions. The owner and management took a personal interest in keeping our group safe and cared for, and that hands-on leadership made the stay feel human. The team treated the students warmly and respectfully, fed them well, kept them comfortable, worked around our shifting timeline, arranged transportation, and communicated clearly. From the moment we arrived, staff stayed calm and focused on solutions. Rooms were made available, logistics sorted out, and questions answered before we finished asking. When you're responsible for teenagers far from home, that steadiness means everything. The property is beautiful, but it was the service that carried us through the stress. Our last day was easy and uneventful. The students rested, regrouped, ate well, and lounged by the pool. What might have been a stressful ordeal became a peaceful pause because the hotel handled adversity with grace. If you're near San José and plans fall apart, this is a solid place to land. We did.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful, the pool is huge and well kept, and everyone on staff was friendly and great. I loved the Costa Rican-style breakfast, and the restaurant was just right for dinner. My villa suite was roomy, old-school, and had everything I needed, including a very comfortable bed. The place may date from the 1970s or 1980s, but that time-capsule feel is part of its charm for me, from before chain hotels became so common. The only small snag was the WiFi in my room, which was much slower and less stable than elsewhere at the resort. On the other hand, it gave me a chance to put my phone down and disconnect a little. I'm finishing a one-night stay and hope to come back someday.

Near the San Jose airport, this place turned out to be a real gem. The pool is huge and the grounds are lovely. The restaurant serves delicious, authentic Italian food, which makes sense since the owners are Italian. Ashley and Allison took impeccable care of every detail. We'll be back to enjoy the hotel spa!

The restaurant balcony overlooks the pool and greenery, and the breezy morning makes you want to stay there for ages. Such a beautifully situated place for a night in San Jose.

The food is quite good and so are the prices. Not too far from the airport, it's a nice spot to relax over coffee or a meal. You can stay here too, down in the lower part of the hilly town of La Garita.
