The room is cleaned daily, and while the furnishings are simple, everything is clean and nicely arranged. Ceiba Tree Lodge is a lovely place near Lake Arenal, close to the famous Arenal Volcano but away from the busy feel of La Fortuna. There’s something magical about seeing the Ceiba tree from the room. Breakfast is delicious, laundry is handled quickly and efficiently, and Sergio is a very attentive, helpful host who speaks excellent English and is always glad to share activity tips.

This is a rainforest stay, not a motel, so choose one of the nearby small towns if you want a standard experience. The natural grounds are beautifully kept beneath the majestic 500+ year old Cieba Tree, with incredible sunset views over Arenal Lake. Sergio is one of the nicest people you’ll meet, and his breakfast is something I’d happily wake up for every day. We feel lucky to have found this place and will definitely return. For lunch or an early dinner, try LA Tortuga a couple of km down the road. The food and service are great. They feed wild birds on their property, and walking over to the 250 yr old Cieba with a cold drink is worth the meal.

What we liked most was coming back here after our outings and getting away from the commercial bustle around La Fortuna. There’s no commercial activity close by, which made it a peaceful place to wind down. Ceiba tree lodge sits high in the mountains above the lake, and our small room looked out toward the tree, just as you’d expect at a lodge. Sergio was generous with his time and energy, helping us settle in, talking through our plans for the week, and providing breakfast. It was plentiful and left us satisfied, especially the coffee. Keep in mind it takes about 25 to 40 minutes to drive from Fortune to get here.

The evening fireflies circling the tree are pure magic, so make sure you wait around to see them. Staying at the Ceiba Tree Lodge felt mystical. A beautiful place, wonderful people, and Sergio was a lovely host.
