Finca don Litos

The pool and restaurant were great. The room, though, was dirty, with black mold, peeling paint, dust, and cobwebs, and one of the beds had signs of bed bugs. The accommodations were more than lacking. I've stayed in $10 hostels that were cleaner and better maintained than this hotel.

The breakfast was simple and good, and the coffee was good too. We paid less than half what the other restaurants in town charge. On New Year's Day, the usual places were either closed or packed with tourists, so we came back to this unassuming local spot on the corner of Ruta 36 and the main road to Cahuita. We'd eaten here before and knew the food was good. We arrived just before breakfast service ended, which worked out for us but not for the people who came right after. This time we passed on our usual omelette and got scrambled eggs (huevos revueltos), bacon, and toast. It's mostly locals here, and some staff have a hard time with English. Still, even if you don't speak Spanish, gestures and pointing at menu pictures will get you by. I speak some Spanish, which helps, and locals seem to enjoy it when you try their language. I think they get a kick out of my mangled attempts and getting to correct me or teach me something new. The staff were warm, friendly, and helpful. Good basic food, and we can recommend it.

The music was terrific, with a local couple singing and whistling along 🫶 We stopped for lunch after the park. I had the coconut fillet of fish, and my husband got the chicken with Caribbean sauce. Very affordable too 👌

There are better options around, so see this place for yourself before reserving by phone and paying. I suspect some of the excellent reviews may be fake, possibly written by the owner. The hotel is rundown and poorly maintained. There isn't really any landscaping, just mud everywhere, and the parking lot is a muddy pit. Sheets and towels were hung out to dry around the small pool and in front of the rooms, which looked very getto. The Wi-Fi was useless, around 0.3 mbps, so uploading pictures was almost impossible. At the restaurant, we waited an hour for an expensive, low-quality meal. The price was far too high for such a low-quality place, $100 is a lot. Carlos Vaz, the owner, was rude and seemed not to care about people.
