The birds, ocean light, and rainforest sounds made this weekend feel almost unreal. We stayed in the Casa Raiz Cabin, watched the sunrise and sunset, and even had monkeys swinging past our room in the afternoon. The Tucon was my favorite bird. Laura and the staff were so helpful, too. On Saturday we hiked into Corcovado NP, then went horseback riding Sunday. If you want a Costa Rican adventure by day and a beautiful place to fall asleep to the rainforest at night, this is it.

It takes a while to reach this place, but the journey is absolutely worth it. The surroundings feel like the animals’ home and you’re lucky to be visiting, rather than like they’re just passing through a hotel. The atmosphere is deeply relaxed, with thoughtful details and lovely staff who seem genuinely happy to be there. It is a bit expensive, depending on your budget, but I think it’s worth experiencing. Thanks to the lovely team.

A great spot to unwind, tucked into Costa Rica’s rainforest. There’s wildlife all around the grounds, Corcovado Forest is within walking distance, and the beach is just across the road. Bring proper hiking shoes.

The road is rough, so getting to Finca Exotica takes some effort and I’d definitely suggest a 4x4WD. Still, every bit of the trip was worth it. We were the only guests in rainy season, and they kept the hotel open for us. Gabriela was as kind a host as you could hope for. We loved our little jungle paradise, and the food was excellent.

The wildlife here is everywhere. Scarlet macaws and toucans were right outside our bungalow, along with anteaters, tapirs, monkeys, coatis, butterflies, lizards, and more. You don’t have to go looking for it like in other parts of Costa Rica, you’re immersed in it. The staff were wonderful, the grounds immaculate, and the food great. If you want to explore more, ask for Jerson for a Corcovado tour or a nature walk through Finca Exotica. He was a great guide. We stayed four nights in the Mango cabin. It’s quite a hike uphill, but the view was immaculate. For two nights we were the only guests, and it felt like having a little slice of paradise to ourselves. You can hear the ocean waves even up at Mango, and it’s so peaceful. This may be the most special place either my partner or I have stayed. The 40 km dirt road is doable and worth it. Our small Suzuki SUV made it through without a snorkel. Just drive slowly and time your trip so you don’t meet heavy rain on the unimproved road.
