Casa Mora B&B

The train nearby is noisy, and the shower was cold only. Still, this old-style B&B has a lot of character, with beautiful old furniture and really creative architecture. It's close to the Basilica, right in the heart of Carthago, and has a surprisingly good bar and barbecue area.

The staff were very nice, and breakfast was good. The location is also convenient for Cartago, close to the Basilica and beside a very good restaurant, La Puerta del Sol. But the train tracks right next to the B&B were a serious problem for us. Service starts at about 4:45ish and runs for roughly three hours, then starts up again around 3 p.m. for another 3-4 hours. The whistle begins a few minutes beforehand, and the train repeatedly blasts its horn as it passes. My son's room was only a few feet from the tracks, and my 5-year old grandson was terrified and couldn't sleep. We left after the first night, and no refund was offered for our 5-night stay. There were plumbing problems in their room, too. My room was okay, but quite warm, with only a ceiling fan and no AC.

The basilica and ruins are gorgeous and close by. We stayed two nights and had a great experience, with comfortable, spotless accommodations and a wonderful breakfast. I could hear the train another reviewer mentioned, but it didn't bother me. I only noticed it when I was already awake, and slept fine until 7/8.

The owners were very nice and helpful, and gave us fresh spring water from his farm. The B&B was clean and comfortable, with a generous, enjoyable breakfast. The train is the one drawback. It goes past the house every hour from 5:30 am until 8:30 pm. If you're an early riser or a heavy sleeper, it may not be a problem, but it bothers those who want to sleep later.
