Eco Travel Hostel

The best beaches are an easy bike ride away, along with tasty local sodas serving Caribbean food. This is a wonderful place if you love nature, animals, and people. You can spend quiet time in a hammock listening to birds, or share a glass of wine with the owners while they play great songs from the 60s. The hostel can be whatever kind of stay you're looking for. I'd definitely recommend it to friends and family!

I spent four weeks helping coordinate activities at Eco Travel Hostel / Planet Conservation, and came away with so many meaningful memories, interesting experiences, and encounters with all kinds of people. I loved the real Costa Rican “pura vida” feeling here. The owners are warm, genuine hosts who work hard to help everyone feel comfortable and part of the group. Their community project matters too, with regular beach cleanups and recycling. The place is in gorgeous nature, full of wildlife like sloths, iguanas, and monkeys, yet the best beach in the whole Caribbean area is only about a five-minute bike ride away. The water is usually calm for swimming, though watch out for rip currents along the beaches. The sand is clean and powdery, and the beach is quiet and secluded. Bikes are available onsite for a small fee, and there's a big supermarket nearby. If you want nightlife, getting to the city center is easy, but most guests seem to come for a real nature immersion. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and cleaned regularly. The gardens are lush and full of flowers, with hummingbirds and butterflies visiting now and then. There's a great pool, free yoga in a beautiful jungle shala, and occasional free salsa dancing. Food is amazing, healthy, and homemade with love, with pastries from time to time. The kitchen staff are very sweet. The property is well kept, and unlike other accommodations I've stayed in, the ceilings didn't leak during rainy season. Wi-Fi can be unreliable, but that's an area-wide issue since fiber optics haven't arrived yet, not the hostel's fault. It's the price of living in paradise! I stayed for ten days and am coming back next week for a longer stay. I miss the place! Thanks for the hospitality.
