I’ve watched Cocles change over the last 14 years, and it’s reassuring that La Costa de Papito still offers the best accommodation at a very fair price. I first came in 2011 and have returned many times, most recently for ten nights in mid-October. October can be a great time to visit, since the sea is usually very flat. This is a small, family-run property just across the road from Cocles Beach, with beautifully crafted bungalows scattered across lovely, well-kept grounds full of native plants, flowers and wildlife. Howler monkeys often wake you in the morning. A sloth hung out just a few feet from our bungalow’s outdoor terrace, and hummingbirds and blue Morpho butterflies are regular visitors. The family takes wonderful care of guests. They serve a delicious made-to-order breakfast each morning, with coffee and mineral water available all day. Beach towels and chairs are provided, and you can rent bicycles on site. There are lots of places to eat and drink just a short walk away.

Really nice stay, and the team was helpful. Sleeping with the quiet night and animal sounds around me felt like being inside the jungle. The room smelled good, like wood. I only wish there’d been hot water for my tea. I’ll miss my three-legged cat 😅

I spent a week in these lovely, comfortable bungalows, tucked into the peaceful Caribbean jungle. Cocles beach is still only a five-minute walk away. I’m definitely coming back!

The resort is beautiful, the staff are kind, and breakfast was amazing. It’s a great location for exploring the coast of Costa Rica. I really enjoyed my stay and absolutely adored the three-legged kitty Mineno (I’m not quite sure I’ve got his name spelled right). You should make him Facebook and Instagram pages. That could bring attention to the place and attract animal lovers as followers, who might come visit.

I’ve known this place for more than 30 years, and it seems to keep changing for the better each time I visit. There’s such a positive, calming energy here. It feels nourishing for both mind and body. Downtown is a short walk away, yet the place feels peaceful, beautiful, and far removed. Highly recommended!
