I went on my own and ended up spending several days here, split between two bungalows because I booked at the last minute and couldn't stay in just one. The ocean and sunset views from both were stunning, though I understand the sunset view can vary with the time of year. The lodge is a little off the beaten path, with beautiful scenery and wildlife right on the grounds. For someone new to Costa Rica, I'd say 4-6 days here is just right: time for Corcovado, birdwatching, the nearby river, a walk into town, the beach, and exploring the property. Dinner became a nice communal routine. I'd sit with the same people I'd chatted with the evening before, and every dish I tried was delicious. Breakfast was included and very good; lunch and dinner were optional. I took Steven's morning birdwatching tour, which lasted around 3 hours. He knew so much, and I saw nearly every bird on my bucket list, plus some other fun animals. I'd do the tour on your first morning so you know where to look for birds during the rest of your stay. Everyone was incredibly helpful, and I got to know the staff. A shoutout to Kembly, Steven, Bert, Harrison, and the grounds crew, who kept the lawns looking perfect. They all worked hard to make sure guests had a great time. The closest beach is less than a 10-minute walk away, but it's very rocky. There's also a lovely, fairly secluded trail alongside the lodge that takes about an hour and leads into town. Keep walking for about 20ish minutes to reach a sandier, semi-private beach. If the lodge tours to Corcovado are full, tours from town may pick you up at the lodge's entry gate, but check in advance. Bring an extension cord or portable charger. There's only one plug high up, so I charged my phone and power bank in the dining area in the evenings, which worked perfectly.

The staff were kind, friendly, smiling, and relaxed, and they helped whenever we asked. Still, things sometimes felt a little too “mañana.” In my experience, daily tasks were handled inconsistently: some days there was no room service, another time no starter before the meal, and once tea or water was missing. We often had to repeat simple details like our room number or order, and orders could be incomplete. At times the staff seemed to be just chilling around. I'd hope for a bit more supervision and focus on guests next time, though we'd still love to return because this really is a great place. I recommend it. The setting is wonderfully quiet, with clean, unspoiled nature and very little rubbish or human impact. You're surrounded by George’s nature: plants, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and more. The bungalows look out over jungle and ocean, and the views are stunning. Two beautiful beaches are reachable along small trails, and one may be the best beach you've ever visited, often empty with no other people around. There are plenty of coconuts. If you're able to open one, you can drink fresh coconut water and taste the coconut itself. Swimming is best in the morning, since the waves can get quite strong in the afternoon. It's easier to arrive by boat, but you can drive straight there in a 4×4 vehicle.

I already miss that stunning view, and I'd go back again and again. It's one of my favorite places in Costa Rica, with incredible service, and Steven takes great care of everyone. Being able to unplug from the internet and enjoy the surroundings and wildlife is so nice. I'd highly recommend it to anyone needing a break or hoping to see lots of beautiful birds and animals.

We had a really incredible stay. The rooms were useful and pleasant, with daily cleaning, and the food was tasty. What mattered most to us was how easy it was to spot so many species in their natural surroundings. The lodge views were great, and the staff were kind and nice.

We had the chance to take lots of walks around the area, and I even did a fantastic trail run along the coast to Drake Bay and back. Staying several days at Punta Marenco was one of our best experiences in Costa Rica. The lodge was perfect, and spotting animals was just as good. Katrin and Michael.
