The Sunset Tucano Lodge

It was great to be away from Drake Bay, surrounded by nature and with so many nearly empty beaches to choose from. The accommodation is a little basic but clean, the meals are good, and the service is great. They can also help arrange transport and excursions if you need them. We had a wonderful stay.

The remote location makes this a great base for trips to Cano island for snorkeling or diving, and to Corcovado. Boats can pick you up right from the nearby beaches. I'd recommend arranging trips through Guillermo, who knows the operators and is happy to handle the logistics. This was a highlight of our trip. Guillermo and the team took great care of us, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all included and amazing.

We had the beaches around the lodge pretty much to ourselves, and the cabins sit in a lovely garden where toucans fly by regularly. There are lots of monkeys on the nearby trail, too. The food was varied and great. We came with our two teenagers, who aren't easy to please, and we all had a great time. Guillermo, Isaac, and their families were wonderful hosts, always attentive and helpful. They met us on the beach to help with our luggage and helped arrange tours and the boat. Thanks for everything, Guillermo and Isaac!

The room was beautiful, the beach gorgeous, and the food delicious. What made our stay especially meaningful, though, was Guillermo and his family. Guillermo's enthusiasm and pride in this special part of Costa Rica came through in every conversation. We feel lucky to have stayed at Sunset Tucano and met them. My partner and I had gotten confused about the snorkeling tour we'd booked ourselves. Guillermo went above and beyond to work out where we needed to be and get us there at a time that suited us. He made us feel so welcome. What an amazing family and special place.
