Hotel Riu Guanacaste - All Inclusive

I'm at the airport heading home, already looking forward to coming back after the renovations. The resort was spotless, and wherever we went, someone seemed to be cleaning. The pools, food, and service were all excellent, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Apparently it's closing soon for renovations, so I can't wait to see the updated place.

I've always had a great time at this hotel. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make a stay memorable. Thanks to Donovan for all the drinks at night. I'd like the option to reserve dinner, since that's my only suggestion. I hear the hotel is due for a revamp soon, which is good because our room could have used some TLC. And what was with the tub in the middle of the room? We thought it was weird.

We went for a stag party, and I'd worried from the reviews that the place might be too family-oriented for our group. That turned out to be wrong. The hotel is spotless, the staff are incredible, and if you like drinks you'll be well looked after. The bar staff made sure we had something in hand wherever we were. Jeff deserves a special mention for working tirelessly to keep us entertained. The rooms felt a bit dated and some food options weren't great. It's also pretty remote, so once you're there, there's not much nearby beyond the beach and monkeys. The main pool bars shut at 23.00, then the nightclub is open until 02.00. After that, the sports bar in the other hotel is open 24/7. There are even optics in the bedroom.

The grounds were pristine, housekeeping immaculate, and the resort spotless. We especially enjoyed the pools and beach, and the food was varied, delicious, and nicely presented. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and friendly from the moment we arrived. Our room was comfortable, though the garden-view suite we requested didn't quite meet expectations: the view was of a staff pathway and the neighboring resort. I understand the hotel is planning renovations later this year, and a few changes could help. A proper, fully enclosed bathroom would give guests more privacy and practicality; the bathtub in the middle of the suite and the vanity placement could be reconsidered. Our standard check-in was at 3:00 pm. We had traveled 24 hours and arrived at 1:00 pm local time, and I was so exhausted I fell asleep in the lobby. Offering earlier check-in, even for a fee, could make arrivals easier for guests coming a long way. Better signs around the property and a more complete information book in the suite would help too. The app is useful, but not always practical. This was my first all-inclusive stay after many years of traveling, and it was a wonderful experience. I look forward to returning to Costa Rica.
