Hotel Amapola Resort

The toilet was the one real problem for us. It was wedged between the wall on one side and the shower's glass panel on the other, with so little room that using it was very difficult. The panel should at least be removed to make it usable. We visited from San Antonio, Texas, and stayed with my wife on 30 March 2025. The hotel isn't new, but it's kept clean. It's in an excellent location, the front desk service was excellent, and the restaurant next door was very good.

The next morning at breakfast, the food was bland, the bread soggy, and the eggs cold. The coffee was decent, at least. Halfway through eating, the restaurant manager sent us to reception, saying breakfast wasn't included in the already high price. My wife was crying in front of other people by then. Reception offered no help or explanation, though the restaurant staff member assisting us gave a small discount. This whole situation was ridiculous. We had booked two nights, but even getting checked in took over 30 minutes, with one person at the desk and nine people waiting. Then they claimed only one person was on the reservation and wanted another 388 for the same room because we were a couple. That made no sense. We argued for an hour and a half and got just 30% off. We asked to be reimbursed and go somewhere else, but apparently there were no refunds. More than two hours in, nobody had told us where our room was or explained anything about the property. The room was dated and poorly maintained: broken furniture, a bathroom door that needed a hard pull to shut, a moldy smell in the washroom, a rusty, moldy fridge, no hair dryer, and no hot water. The toilet lever was so stiff I needed both hands to flush. The pool also looked neglected, and service was rude. We left feeling our time and money weren't appreciated. Please stay somewhere else.

I can't describe how disgusting this resort felt. The pools were dirty, and I found the staff extremely shady. Their looks made us uncomfortable, and we were told by a couple we met there that one worker had tried to inappropriately touch their 13-year-old daughter. We left two days early after hearing that, though we'd paid in full and they refused to refund us. I'm glad we left. If you're thinking of coming, I'd strongly reconsider.

After our flight was delayed overnight, the airline put us here. I understand they suddenly had a lot of extra guests, but the room smelled of mould, one bed had wrinkled sheets, and the pillows were falling apart, worse than a cheap hotel pillow. The decor was old, with cracked walls and wires sticking out. When we raised the bedding and room condition, staff told us to go somewhere else. It felt unsafe and unclean, so we left for another hotel.
