I loved the location, the bar and restaurant setup, and the staff on my first visit while renovations were going on. I wanted to come back, but the return was a letdown. The price had doubled, the work still wasn’t finished, and the rooms described as “finished” were poor. In the morning, cockroaches were coming out of the bar/kitchen. Worst of all, management didn’t seem to care. I complained and got brushed off with nonsense and a promise of an email follow-up that never came. Very disappointing. I’d try one of the many nearby hotels instead.

This was exactly the mix we wanted, a budget surf hostel with a high-end restaurant/resort feel. The surf right out back is incredible, the food is the best in the area and on the cheaper side, the staff are great, and the AC is cold. When the waves are too big, you can head to Jaco, or go about a mile south where the surf calms down a bit. Cheers!

I stayed two places down at Surf Inn Hermosa, not at the hotel, but I came here for breakfast and lunch. The smoothie was the best I’ve ever had, and the iced coffee was great too. Go eat here, it’s worth it and you won’t be disappointed.

The large balcony was the best part. During our seven-day stay, the room was cleaned only once, and the bath towels were stained. There was no restaurant or bar, despite what was advertised.

I came for the food and the amazing sunset view, and both were great. The stray dogs and all the locals’ and restaurant owners’ leashed dogs were a lot, though. It feels like almost everyone around here has about two dogs. There’s even a pet pig sitting up in a tutu, which isn’t my thing, but to each his own.
