Arenal Volcano Inn

The location was great, many rooms had great views, staff were very friendly, and the food was pretty decent. We stayed two nights and enjoyed most of it. The rooms were clean, but our room, I believe 108, was up on the hill in the corner and had a terrible urine smell. We told staff twice, and they came quickly and tried to clean it. Since they weren't sure where it came from, they could only cover the smell with cleaning solutions and didn't get rid of it completely. Switching rooms was too much hassle, and none were available anyway. I hope they can fix this before another guest has to smell that funk! Also, be very careful: some walkways can get slippery in the rain.

The pool and little lookout trail were lovely, and on clear stretches you could spot the volcano from much of the property. We also liked how close everything was to activities and restaurants while the place itself stayed peaceful. The restaurant meals were delicious, and the staff were kind and helpful. We only spent part of our honeymoon here. We booked through anywhere.com without much expectation, but were really happy with the stay. Even though we arrived from the airport after 2 a.m., someone was there to walk us to our room, where they had left a sweet congratulations surprise.

The staff were so attentive and kind, and the restaurant had tasty food at good prices. The rooms were comfortable, nicely appointed, and very well equipped. It's only about five minutes from the best hot springs. A 10/10 hotel, I'd definitely recommend staying here.

Our room had practically no privacy. The walkway runs right past a huge picture window in the bedroom, so we had to keep the curtains shut the whole time. I can't understand why the manager thought that setup was a good idea.
