Hotel Las Orquideas

The pool area impressed me most, even better than the pictures, and the grounds are lovely. Well-kept jungle walkways connect the rooms to the pool and restaurant. The facilities were great, breakfast was free and good, staff and service were great, and my room was cleaned every day. The Wi-Fi worked well at the restaurant, but kept disconnecting in my room, which was frustrating. The bed was very firm, a little too firm for me, though that’s just personal preference. I had an amazing stay, the value was great, and I’d definitely come back.

We arrived in the evening and the receptionist greeted us with so much warmth. She showed us around and walked us to our room, which was very clean, tidy, and cozy. The hotel manager personally handles concerns and is friendly and dedicated. He made us feel valued and taken seriously, like someone was looking out for us. The staff were consistently attentive and kind, making sure we were all set and asking if we needed anything. We were completely satisfied. The grounds are beautiful, full of lush greenery, varied plants, and lovely pools. Animals sometimes move through the trees, and there are lots of different birds. Walking around felt like a peaceful stroll through the jungle. We also had a stunning volcano view. Breakfast was delicious, varied, and beautifully prepared. We wish every visitor to La Fortuna could experience this peaceful, relaxing place. It felt like home in another country, and we highly recommend it.

The decks were a favorite, and those big windows with retractable blinds made it easy to watch the trees or the rain. We saw a parrot and hummingbirds, and heard monkeys, so it really felt like sleeping in the jungle. The room layout was awkward, though: not enough drawers, no extra table or seats, and the bathroom door banged into the cabinet whenever it opened. Dinner was a letdown, with bland boiled spaghetti and steak that wasn’t much better. Breakfast was fine, and Fabian was a kind, attentive waiter and host. The pool was cold and very shallow. Even with the room setup, we’d stay again.

The staff were kind and the service was great, but we found several cockroaches in the shower every day during our four-night stay. It was disgusting. We were told the room had been fumigated, yet they kept coming up through the shower drain. Staff gave us bug spray and then dismissed the problem. They blamed the rain, though other guests we asked said they hadn’t had the same issue. We were very disappointed by the lack of initiative.
