During our two weeks on vacation in Costa Rica, this was easily the best food I had. The ceviches were delicious, the yellowtail and sea bass were excellent, and the risotto practically melted in my mouth. It’s a little expensive, but the quality is excellent!

Fonda is a big restaurant on the north side of the square, with some tables facing the road. They offer different ceviches and seafood. I was tempted by the burger but went with the chifrijo instead. The portions are generous, so arrive hungry. Everything tasted great, and there’s an extensive drinks menu.
Our guide recommended this place, and we had a nice meal. It costs a bit more than some other spots, but the atmosphere was pleasant. We started at the front, then moved to the back when more of our group arrived, and that area wasn’t as special. I ordered a large seafood salad. It looked great, though there was a lot of lettuce underneath, and for the price I think it could’ve had more prawns and calamari. They got mixed up with our separate bills, but we sorted it out in the end. There’s also a small museum on the side with old phones and gadgets. It reminded me of my younger days.
The pulpo (octopus) was tender and tasty, just as it should be, and the tico mule cocktail was excellent.
Last night we drove past La Fonda 506 and saw it packed, so we made a note of the place. It was quieter tonight, Thursday, though I think the Wednesday specials, lobster and prime rib, may have drawn the crowd. I had the fish of the day and my dining companion ordered the Thursday special. Both dishes were fantastic, and my mixed drink was delicious. One parking note: the yellow curb means you have to pay, so we parked a block away.
