This place is unbelievably beautiful, one of the wonders of the world to me. Alvaro told us he built it over 15 years. I spent about three hours talking with his lovely wife Isbel using Google Translate. We laughed, cried, shared wine, and drank fresh coconuts that Alvaro had put straws in for us. The people and the place are both amazing. I’m in love with all of it, and I’ll definitely stay with them on my next trip back to Costa Rica.

There’s lots of room around the property, and the birdwatching is great in a beautiful setting. At first, you may be surprised when you arrive, but then you’ll love the room and bed. The owners are doing their best to look after guests. Arrange your meals with reception ahead of time, since the nearest place to eat isn’t close. Some rooms only have cold showers. You’ll need a proper 4x4 to reach the place safely.

Nature is all around you here. You can hear it, see it, smell it, and it’s fantastic. The river is a 15-minute walk away, and it was a great wild outing with our four-year-old son. We felt safe even though the place feels remote, right out in the wild. We had a very special stay. It has a family feel, and you quickly feel at home. The food was great too, with such a lovely view. Thank you!

The hotel itself is really good, and the food is delicious. It’s a hidden gem deep in the jungle, but getting there takes care. The 5 km unpaved rocky road has no lights, and you need a 4x4. Don’t go after sunset. I made that mistake and drove over two hanging bridges that were terrifying in the dark because I hadn’t expected them. It can get spooky. Have fun and stay safe.

I enjoyed the drive, though you need a 4x4 to get there. I went to check the place out as a possible venue for friends visiting from the U.S., a group of military members, veterans, law enforcement, and their families. But when I arrived, a man came out and told me bluntly that I had to “consume” something to be on the premises. I wasn’t given a chance to take a quick look or maybe have lunch. He also complained that I wasn’t parked properly, even though there was plenty of room and no signs showing any restrictions. I wouldn’t go back to a place that seems to have no proper way of dealing with potential customers. Neighbors in the Sarapiquí area had warned me not to bother. Two people told me Costa Rican customers aren’t treated as well as foreigners. They did say the area is beautiful, but it isn’t the only place to visit. I like the rustic look of the building, but it reminded me of the 1980s Popeye movie with Robin Williams. The structures are built over one another, and some parts have dirt foundations. Would I return? Maybe not.
