Hotel Liberia

The host was nice and pointed us to some great food nearby, but there’s no way this is a three-star hotel. One star at best. The room was incredibly bare and tiny, with a bathroom smaller than my dog’s crate. There was no hot water, even in the shower, and the shower head was broken. The bed was rough, with just one sheet and one pillow and no blankets. WiFi didn’t work in the room, there was no TV, and the curtains were practically see-through, offering no privacy or shade from the light. One of the worst nights of sleep I’ve ever had, and easily the worst hotel room in my 30-plus years.

The owners were wonderful and the service was great. They cooked breakfast for us, took care of our luggage, and arranged a ride to the airport. It’s a charming, family-run little hotel in a good location, with plenty of restaurants nearby and only 15 minutes from the airport. The room was perfectly comfortable for the night. I’d stay again.

Originally a hacienda, this is the oldest hotel in Liberia. It’s a modest, enchanting place with simple rooms, a quiet atmosphere, and a lovely interior “jardin” where you can sit. Breakfast was personally cooked by a very gracious host and owner. The cold shower was manageable. Highly recommend!

We like that Hotel Liberia sits in a cultural part of town that isn’t overrun with tourists. You can eat at a restaurant here and feel like you’re in a foreign country, unlike in the CR beach towns. The area seems quiet and safe. The rooms are small, but the hotel is in a historic part of Liberia, with lots of outdoor space for sitting. The friendly host and hostess have spent a couple of years turning this quaint place into a pleasant hotel. You may be surprised by its charm. We’ve ordered breakfast, and all the reviews say it’s amazing. We’ll see!
