We slept really well on the comfortable mattresses, and the room had lots of space, two double beds, and a breezy veranda with a view of the beach and sunrise through the trees. The kitchen was well equipped, with a full fridge, sink, hot water kettle for tea and coffee, electric pan, gas stove, dishes, and plenty of counter space. WiFi worked well enough for digital nomads. You can walk to a dozen or more restaurants and several beaches, and the beach across the road is a fun place to spend an afternoon or swim at sunrise. The quieter part of town seems popular with international travelers. A couple of things could be better: the shower head needs replacing, and there was no bar soap or shampoo. Even so, we had an amazing stay, and my travel partner and I would both return to Casa Susen.

The grounds are full of wildlife, and our room had gorgeous open spaces, beautiful windows, and a view of the ocean through the jungle. There’s a washing machine, clothesline, and outdoor taps, which were handy after a beach day. The owners don’t speak English, but they’re very kind. When rain started while we were out, they brought our laundry in and hung it inside.

Montezuma is a beach town in the jungle, so this place suits adventurous people who are comfortable with bugs and open-air rooms. If you want something fancy, book a resort instead. This is a family home they open to guests, and the family was extremely nice. They were happy to chat, but also left us alone when we wanted to relax. The location was perfect, with monkeys right in the backyard, comfortable beds, nice washrooms, and access to a kitchen, fridge, and food storage.

We stayed here long term, my husband, our two kids, and me, and it really felt like we were part of the family. Blanca and Romano are the nicest owners, and the location is amazing, with everything within walking distance. Love and Pura vida.

A friendly host, and our little private guest house was clean and tidy. It’s basic, with no hot water or AC, but the price makes sense for the facilities and location.
