Hotel El Regalo

We had a clean, quiet property that was easy to find at night, with plenty of parking. Our room, number 61, had soft sheets, comfortable mattresses and pillows, hot water, working air conditioning, and decent WiFi. There was a mini fridge too, though we didn’t use it. We stopped for one night while driving from Liberia toward the southern Nicoya peninsula. The staff were kind and patient with our limited Spanish, even at 8:00 PM. We didn’t use the pool or go to the restaurant, but our stay came with breakfast vouchers. We booked through Aribnb and had no problems. I’d stay again and recommend it. Thank you!

The location is great and the staff are kind, which makes it a real shame that the stay was so bad. Both rooms smelled awful and had ants everywhere. The first one was filthy, smelled strongly of mold, and also had roaches. Someone on site kindly moved us, but the second room was just as bad. In the middle of the night, a drunk man got our room confused with his and kept trying the doors and windows. There wasn’t a phone in the room to call reception, so I had to use my cell and pay for a long distance call from Canada. There seemed to be no noise rules either. After switching rooms and barely sleeping, we were woken at 5 am by the neighbors playing music on giant speakers. Breakfast was cold and bland. The internet was terrible unless your room was near the front office. The hotel is overpriced, so do your research and avoid it.

The restaurant was alright, and the hotel itself was pretty nice and really clean, with hot water and a pleasant pool. I’ll definitely come back to stay.

Clean room, and good enough for a night when you’re tired or need a pause on a long drive. The pool water could be cleaner, and the broken, wrecked loungers should be removed to tidy up the pool area. The grounds around the restaurant need work too.
