I’ve never stayed anywhere outside my home country that I liked as much as Illuminar. The beach front room was roomier and more comfortable than I expected, and the staff were kind and kept it clean. I used the yoga shala every morning and night, and breakfast across the street was both delicious and generous. The included surfboard rentals at the Iguana were a dream. I worked remotely at the beach club and surfed morning and evening on some of the best boards I’ve ridden. After my friend left, Ryan let me extend my stay in his surf shack, which was just right for one person. Thanks so much for making the stay incredible, Ryan. I couldn’t recommend Illuminar more.

Ryan is awesome. I hired him as a surf guide for a couple of days, learned the wave, and picked up some pointers. I was there at the start of the rainy season in early May, and had perfect weather and waves almost every day. The location is central and close to restaurants and stores, yet it stays quiet. From the property, a nice jungle walk takes you to the less crowded north side of the beach. On the way, the Gilded Iguana surf club is included in the room rate, with all kinds of boards to try. The guys wax them up and you're off. Highly recommended!

The location was peaceful and quiet, with great restaurants only a few minutes away on foot and private access to the beach. I felt welcome and completely comfortable throughout my stay, thanks to the very friendly staff. My suite was clean and amazing, with a hammock on the balcony. The upper terrace was another highlight, good for watching squirrels in the day and the moon and stars at night. Breakfast was delicious, and the free surfboard rentals and chance to relax by the club pool made the stay even better. I'll definitely come back!

The setting is quiet and relaxed, with warm, genuine service that suits Nosara’s laid-back culture. This place keeps things simple and lets the natural beauty take center stage. You’re steps from the sand and can enjoy incredible sunsets. Breakfast is included just steps away through a nearby sister partnership, and they offer yoga classes too, a lovely way to start the day. Unlimited board rentals at the Iguana Surf Club are a great perk that makes getting out surfing easy. A tip: book directly with the property for the Best Available Rate (BAR). It supports small boutique hotels over third-party sites and gets you the best rate!

Ryan was a great host, and Illuminar was fantastic. It’s perfect for a surfing couple, with fabulous restaurants close by and a short path down to the beach. Breakfast was amazing, and getting access to the surf club at Gilded iguana was the icing on the cake. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
