The breakfast was genuinely good, and the woman running the place was responsive, even if she couldn't fix things. Our stay was still very poor. The shower had one control and only a trickle of cold water, with no hot water at all. The toilet also didn't work, and staff couldn't repair it, so I had to hold my bladder. On top of that, the mattress springs dug into my ribs and made sleeping difficult. At $170 a night, I expected a lot more. If it had been $40-$50, I would've thought that was fair for what we got. The place feels like a hostel at best, and I've stayed in better ones. I honestly don't understand the good reviews, unless they all come from the owners' family.

The hostess was nice, breakfast was decent, and the location is convenient, about three blocks from the beach and close to shops. But the name is misleading. This “hotel” feels more like a hostel, and there may be nicer ones for less money. There's no hot water, which makes washing up after the beach really difficult. They only provide ordinary bar soap, with no shampoo or body wash. You also have to ring a bell to get through the gate because guests aren't given a key. It feels safe, but getting in and out is inconvenient.

Dona Flory was such a lovely host, and breakfast in the morning was excellent, with fruit, eggs, rice and beans, Gallo pinto, and maduro. Inside the Hotel DonRobert gate, it feels like a quiet little Paradise, even though downtown Puntarenas is only two blocks away. We've stayed at other hotels in Puntarenas and found Hotel Don Robert the best value for the price.

What a disappointment. We paid far too much for what we got. The whole hotel is run down and really needs a full renovation. Our room was the worst we've had in months, with a tiny window, cockroaches, spiders, mosquitoes, and no hot water. The pinto at breakfast wasn't good either.
