I slept really well here. Room 4 was nice and clean, with a pool and places to eat nearby. A good option for this area.
Hotel Divisamar was a quiet spot away from the busy town, and we had a clean, comfortable room. The pool area was pleasant, though its deck got too hot for bare feet in the sun. We also saw a star-fruit tree by the pool and a mango tree near the parking lot dropping ripe fruit, which was fascinating to me as an American. We booked two guided outings through Iguana Tours, which the owner recommended: a boat trip through the mangroves and a walking tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. Both were informative and enjoyable. There were plumbing hassles. The cold tap on the bathroom sink burst when we turned it on, spraying water everywhere until we got it stopped. We needed a big stack of towels from the desk to clean up. A shower sign said the hot water takes time to warm up, but didn't mention that the hot tap is on the right, opposite the usual American setup. Before we worked that out, we worried we'd be stuck with cold showers. The owner was helpful when I had accidentally booked two rooms for one night instead of one room for two nights. I called once I noticed the mistake, and he corrected it. He was expecting us when we arrived the next day and was generous with information, answering our questions and sharing his experience.
We paid $288 a night and had a poor stay that took away from our vacation. The property felt dated and neglected: the countertop edges were coming apart, the sink had permanent stains that looked like puke marks, and there was concrete residue around the shower knob. The soap smelled like laundry detergent. The towels were yellowish and felt like old rags, and there were no hand towels. When I asked, I was told they don't provide them, though I was given two. The replacements were less yellow, but still old and used. We also found lizard droppings on the worn comforter and pillow, and I don't know how long the room had been unused or whether it had been refreshed before we got it. The shower had no hot water, and even with both knobs fully open, the flow was weak. A staff member said the solar water heater and water situation were meant to keep water and electricity costs low. I appreciate renewable energy, but a trickle of cold water isn't ideal in a hotel. They reportedly tried to fix it a couple of times while we were out, but it remained broken. For our two-day stay, our family of four had to walk up three flights of stairs to use another room's working shower. The parking lot at the front is small and tight. Tourist buses can unload there, leaving cars unable to get out until they finish. There are overflow spaces nearby.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and we found the rooms clean and spacious. The location worked well for us, close to the beach and some fun restaurants. We liked relaxing by the pool and spotting local wildlife. The beds were decent, though the bathrooms felt a bit dated. For a quick one or two-day visit, it's good value, and we had a really nice stay.
I spent a whole weekend at Hotel Divisamar and felt at home as soon as I arrived. It's a charming family-run place, and I was glad to support their business. The staff's warmth made the stay even better. The room was exceptionally clean, and the air conditioning was a welcome escape from the heat. There was wildlife all around in this beautiful area, which made it a treat for a nature lover like me. Breakfast was simple, fresh, and delicious each morning. The hotel has a cozy, welcoming feel, whether you want a quiet getaway or a base for exploring. I loved every moment and would happily recommend it. Thanks, Maria 😊🙏
