Makanda by The Sea Hotel Adults Only

I didn't book a room, but happened upon the day pass and it was more than worth the cost. I'll definitely book a stay in gorgeous Manuel Antonio here next time. The adults-only setting was so peaceful, with the jungle tucked right up against the coast, and it made for a visit I'll remember for a long time. The whole team was attentive, friendly, accommodating, and fun. Their joy in the work really shows, and the place feels like home meets paradise. Special shout-out to Yoel for his sweet, charming energy, and to Byron, Heiner, Gorge, Luis, and honestly everyone I met. Props to the design team and owners for creating such a mesmerizing experience. 1000/10. -Martin

The food was good, though at these prices I expected more, and the room service choices were a little disappointing. Breakfast wasn't included in our rate when we booked through Expedia, which left a bad taste, especially since we paid $700 a night for four nights. Still, the wow 20 room was beautiful and didn't disappoint. The views were incredible, and we saw lots of wild animals during our stay. The location and the staff were simply wow. Loved it.

We had an incredible honeymoon in one of the villas at this beautiful resort. The room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable, and we saw monkeys, toucans and other birds, and a sloth just feet from our back patio. The staff were always available to take us by golf cart to the private beach or answer questions. WhatsApp was one of the most underrated features: we could text the front desk with questions or requests and get an immediate reply. They were very accommodating, and sent us a list of nearby restaurants when we arrived. The on-site restaurant, Arbol, was incredible. Excellent service all around. We'll definitely come back.

The setting at Makanda By The Sea made us feel like we were staying right in the rainforest, and more than once White-Faced Capuchin monkeys turned up at breakfast. The food was wonderful too, especially the Crunchy French Toast, and the fresh fruit was unbelievably juicy. We came for our wedding anniversary, and the staff made the whole visit feel warm and easy. They remembered our names and greeted us with “Pura Vida!” each day, from check-in through checkout. Booking activities through the hotel was simple, so we could relax instead of worrying over plans. Our room was huge and spotless. I still think the bathroom was larger than some NYC apartments. The hotel is also conveniently close to Manuel Antonio National Park and the beaches. We’ve only just returned home and already miss Costa Rica. Makanda By The Sea made a special trip unforgettable, and we’re hoping to come back. Pura Vida! 🌿
