Hotel El Pequeño Gecko Verde

The bungalow had a private outdoor shower where you could rinse off under the stars, and the owners live on site, which really shows in their hospitality. We had a wonderful stay, with a great pool, quiet nights and a perfect breakfast. Prices were low in late November. We’ll be back soon and would definitely recommend it if you’re visiting Samara.

Juan was especially helpful when we ran into a problem with our villa, going out of his way to sort it out. He also explained the property and Samara when we arrived. It’s a peaceful place with about a dozen villas, each with a terrace and hammock outside and a kitchen inside. Breakfast was good, especially the gecko special. I’d strongly recommend staying here.

The grounds are beautiful, and the bungalows were clean and comfortable. Everyone on staff, including the owners, was friendly, attentive and helpful. It’s quiet here, with town and the beach a short walk or bike ride away. There’s also a trail from the back of the property to a hidden beach, shown in the photos.

Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the hotel grounds feel like rainforest, with howler monkeys, birds and geckos around. The rooms were neat and clean, with AC and hot showers. Sergio, Fabrice and the woman who owns the hotel were kind hosts who gave us restaurant tips and helped arrange tours and airport shuttles. One staff member at reception, Hanna, was rude every time we spoke with her, and we started avoiding that area when she was working. Don’t ask her if you have questions. This place is a real gem, but that experience is why I can’t give it 5/5.
