Four Points by Sheraton San Jose Sabana

The quiet streets around D Sabana Hotel San José made walking out feel a bit concerning, especially after dark. Inside, though, the rooms were spacious, modern, clean and well kept, with comfortable beds and good air conditioning. Breakfast was included, had a nice variety, and was quite good. There’s a small outdoor pool, fitness center, free Wi-Fi and free parking, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The ground floor is under construction, but I wouldn’t let that put me off staying. The décor is practical more than cozy, and some rooms lack a refrigerator, which could matter on a longer visit.

The included breakfast had plenty of fresh fruit, and of course the buffet also had the traditional Costa Rican gallo pinto, rice and beans. The staff were kind and helpful, and they accommodated us when I arrived earlier than expected. It was my first visit to Costa Rica, coming through the capital, San José. This hotel was recently taken over by Marriott. I liked being within walking distance of downtown and a few museums.

In December 2025 the hotel was in the middle of major renovations, so breakfast was served in a room that felt more like a conference space. Our location was about a 20-minute walk from the center. The view was nice from one side of the building, while my sister’s room faced the construction. Aside from that, it was good.

The bar service was a real highlight, Oscar, Alejandro and Jose were fantastic. There’s a nice bar and restaurant, free breakfast, a little fitness center, plus a pool and hot tub. Rooms were clean and roomy, and the beds were nice. Not much is close by, and downtown is a 20-25 minute walk. Still, I really loved the stay.
