SJO Oasis Hostel

The price was affordable, and it's only about a 10-minute Uber ride from the bus terminals. I liked the owner's idea for the place, especially as she's also traveled solo as a woman, like me. Check-in was more stressful than it needed to be, but I talked it over with the owner and hope she'll use the feedback to make things better for future guests. I'd suggest arriving while it's still light out, since finding the place is easier then. I was told better signs should be put up outside soon.

Mari runs a spotless, modern hostel, and she's great. I've stayed twice and plan to keep coming back because Mari rocks! 😊🤙🏽🇨🇷 It's well placed for catching the Tracopa bus or seeing downtown.

I couldn't get in touch with anyone or get directions when I arrived, and I couldn't find the hostel. It was nighttime and felt very unsafe. A person on the street told me to leave right away because the area was dangerous. I almost never leave a bad review, but I don't want someone else ending up in the situation I was in.

Mari made me feel welcome right away and was attentive to my safety. She was helpful, quick to respond, and happy to share advice, and did a lot to make the stay pleasant. I was there for a week and would call this the best hostel of my two-month Costa Rica trip. There's plenty of room in the dorm, with each person getting their own space, light and switch, and outlets. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were spotless, and the bathroom had hot water. The kitchen gear and coffee machine all worked and were very clean. I also liked the coffee shop-style dining area, and having a washing machine was a huge bonus. The place is near the city center and right by a shopping center across from the hospital, so it was easy to get food even late at night. Everything I needed was there.
