Hotel Luisiana

The location, pool, price, and customer service are still five-star. A bit of upkeep would bring my rating up too: the rooms are showing wear, several bathroom shower fixtures are hard to turn, and the towels smell like cooking oil or food. One kitchen cabinet door was coming off.

We arrived at night in heavy rain with our medically certified service dog and decided to stay. The next morning, while walking him on the property, he urinated on the sidewalk outside. They charged us $100 usd for that. When my medically sick travel partner complained about the service, the hotel made us pack up and leave during a two-day stay. We had to go at 8:00 pm and look for another hotel at night, even though we try not to travel or drive after dark for security reasons. They put us on the street because our service dog peed on the sidewalk. Do not stay here if you love dogs or are handicapped, or if you have a service animal.

I paid for four nights in advance after a friend recommended this place while I was renovating my nearby home. That was a mistake. I looked at several rooms before choosing one by the office, and most smelled very bad. In my room, the shower leaked and the toilet barely worked. Staff tried but couldn’t fix it. I had to hold the flush handle for a long time, then reach into the tank to close the flapper. The staff seemed embarrassed about the plumbing and said the owner wouldn’t repair things. The mattress was old, hard, and wet, and the constant shower leak made the room humid with little sunlight. All the rooms are dark, and even with the closet door open my clothes stayed damp. It felt like being in a rainforest. I live at the beach and was cold because the room was colder than outside. When I complained the first night, they said the aircon produced heat, but it didn’t. They gave me blankets, one for the damp mattress and one to wrap up in. Weekends were terribly noisy because of the fabulous Italian pizza restaurant on the grounds, which I can recommend. After two days I asked to cancel, but they wouldn’t return my money. The hotel feels more like a $24-a-night backpacker place. I moved to Hilton Garden Hotel. The staff tried hard, but they had so many rules they seemed powerless; the manager was never there and they couldn’t reach her. I know I won’t get a refund, but people should know it isn’t worth the price. Maybe it could work for one night if you can’t afford more than $60 a night and don’t mind climbing many stairs to a smelly room.

The room had several problems: barely warm water in the shower, a very loud refrigerator, poor TV quality, flat pillows, and thin blankets and towels. There was no shampoo or conditioner, and the toilet was really bad. In the morning, rolling suitcases on the tiled hallways made so much noise it woke me up. The restaurant is open to non-guests, so parking gets crazy at night, and it’s loud too. There are no elevators, and it’s not wheelchair or stroller friendly.
