Scala Monteverde Hotel

I had a few ants and a fridge that didn't work, though both were minor issues, and ants are to be expected in a cloud forest. The room was just as described, large, and had a good hot shower. The manager was friendly and quick to sort out what I needed, including taxis and tours, with easy WhatsApp communication. Breakfast was good. It's a quiet spot near the parks and a nice place to watch the sunset, about a 10-minute walk from the main shops, with a steep climb back. I'd gladly stay again.

Breakfast was the one thing I really enjoyed. They had different options on the menu, which I liked. The room, though, was dirty, moldy, and dusty, with a spider web and a gross spider by the toilet door. There was no heater, and nights could get really cold. The ceiling looked like it might come down at any time, and the quality felt very poor. I was disappointed. I extended my time in monteverde because the minimum stay was two nights, but this was the worst of the 10 hotels I stayed at in Costa Rica. I also saw the biggest caterpillar ever in the room. That part was okay with me since it can happen in Costa Rica.

The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, booking trips and taxis for us. We stayed three nights in rooms #1 and #2, and both had spotless, high-ceilinged rooms with very comfortable beds and pillows. The location is handy, with restaurants and a grocery store less than a minute away, though town itself is a half-mile walk with hills. Highly recommend, and we'd return if we come back.

The hotel includes safe, convenient parking and a very nice breakfast. It's also easy to get around on foot, with the town center and restaurants within walking distance, and a grocery store just a couple of minutes away. Cesar, the manager, is courteous and very helpful, a real example of "Pura Vida".
