The Green Tree Lodge

Staying outside town worked out just fine because the morning breakfast got us ready for the day. There are plenty of places to stay in Monteverde, but we had such a great time at The Green Tree Lodge that I'd recommend it to anyone. It felt like a charming, almost magical 🧙 wonderland. Elizabeth checked us in, was really sweet and accommodating, and shared some killer local recommendations.

The cabin terrace is built beautifully around the trees, and the cabins sit right in the forest. Our host was super nice and knew Monteverde well. A great B&B, definitely recommended!

The owner lives on the property and was very friendly. Let them know if you'll be back late, since they lock the gate. We told them before heading out on our tour. Breakfast was good, and the bathroom had the usual Costa Rica shampoo and conditioner. There's no air conditioning, but we were fine in December. They told us the area stays fairly temperate. We walked the uphill 2.7 km into town, though local taxis can take you there and back. The lodge is well placed for spotting some wildlife, and there's a night walk tour just down the road. We hadn't known about it before arriving and had already booked a night tour elsewhere. The property is beautiful.

There are four tree houses spread around the property, with a couple of neighboring homes near the top of the driveway. From Santa Elena it's easy to get here, though you may need a 4x4 for the driveway. We saw animals and heard birds in the morning, and had a great guide and breakfast. Falling asleep to the forest sounds and waking to the birds was a dream come true!
