Hotel Mar Rey

We've already booked to return in March 2026. Everything is within walking distance of Mar Rey, which sits right in the heart of Tamarindo. I saw someone call the area sketchy in another review, but that wasn't our experience at all. The property is clean and well maintained, and the pool is wonderful. Evelyn gives poolside massages for 30-90 minutes. Yes, there are two dogs living on site, a wiener dog and a Doberman, and both were very friendly. We had zero issues with them. Sunday night was the only quiet night on the street, so there can be thumping and street noise, though it didn't bother us. We heard it and put it aside. Across the street is the beach and Waffle Monkey, where we had breakfast looking at the waves and listening to howler monkeys. Pedro, in the store next to Waffle Monkey, knows a ton and is full of information. When we arrived, Evelyn greeted us, and we later learned she's a fantastic massage expert. She kindly showed us a couple of available rooms. They're all basic and mostly alike, apart from the number of beds. I'd chatted with Edwin before we arrived, and he was just as nice in person. I asked him lots of questions during our stay, and he smiled, answered, and helped us as needed. Our ground-floor room had an extremely comfortable bed, which matters to us when we're staying a week or longer. Come enjoy a simple, clean, comfortable stay at Mar Rey.
